What are the qualifications for renting a boat?

Prior boating experience is required.

Who can drive the boat?

Anyone 21+ with a valid driver’s license with prior boating experience.

What should I bring to the rental office the morning of my rental?

All renters with prior boating experience and who plan on driving the boat are required to be present to sign your rental contract. In your confirmation email after booking your reservation, all neccessary documents are attached. Please bring your valid driver’s license and a credit card for our required damage deposit.

Will you be renting out life vests, tubes, and sport equipment?

Our boaters are able to rent additional equipment through our pro-shop. Each rental boat is equipped with standard life vests.

Do you take same-day reservations?

We take same day reservations on a first come, first serve basis. Please check our availability online here, and click on “RENT NOW” to see same-day availability.

What lakes can I access from Elk Rapids Marina?

From Elk Rapids Marina, you can enjoy access to Elk Lake, Lake Skegemog, and Torch Lake with any of our pontoon rentals.

If you’re interested in one of our specialty boats, please feel free to ask a team member about any specific restrictions.

What is the difference between the levels of boats you rent?

Base Model Pontoons: These traditional pontoons are equipped with a 50-hp outboard motor and are perfect for a relaxing cruise around Elk Lake. Max passengers: 10.
Mid-Range Pontoons: Our mid-range pontoons feature a 90-hp outboard motor, offering a little more power for a fun, leisurely ride across the lakes. Max passengers: 10.
Tubing Pontoons: With a 115-hp outboard motor, these pontoons are ideal for towing a tube, ensuring a thrilling yet safe experience on the water. Max passengers: 10.
Tri-Toon: Upgrade to our Tri-Toon rentals, with a 200-hp outboard motor. Perfect for tubing & waterskiing, these boats are all 2024 models or newer. Max passengers: 12.
Wake-Surfing Boats: For those looking to catch the perfect wave, our wake-surfing boats are the way to go. For an even better experience, ask about booking a captain. Restrictions may apply—please speak with one of our team members for more details.

What are your rules about fueling the boats?

Your rental will come with a full tank of gas to start. Upon return, we’ll refill the tank, and payment will be required at that time.

Do you offer insurance?

Yes, we offer optional damage insurance that covers only damages to the rental boat.

You can purchase this at the time of booking or during check-in.

Please note, Elk Rapids Marina does not offer cancellation insurance. We recommend checking your homeowner, renter, auto, or credit card policies for coverage.

What If the weather isn’t ideal for boating?

In the event of weather conditions that make boating unsafe (heavy rain, storms, etc.) we may cancel your reservation and issue a refund, minus cancellation insurance fees.

Due to Northern Michigan’s unpredictable weather, we may offer a half-day rental at a discounted rate if conditions improve, which will be determined by late morning during the day of your rental.

Please contact us to discuss the weather forecast prior to your rental.

Note that cooler temperatures or overcast skies are not considered as unsafe boating conditions; so please dress accordingly.

What happens if I have faulty or mechanical equipment Issues?

While we strive to maintain all boats in top condition, mechanical issues can arise that are out of our control. We cannot guarantee the functionality of every amenity. If an issue occurs, we will do our best to provide you with the next available unit. If your rental is inoperable, we will offer a rescheduled date or a full refund.

Do you allow dogs on the boats?

We’re happy to welcome your furry friends! Feel free to bring your dog aboard. As the captain/renter, you are responsible for any pet-related damages/messes during your trip.
